Bluing Agent Ultra-3 – Even Blackening for Steel
The Ultra-3 Bluing agent offers reliable protection for steel workpieces against corrosion. One major advantage of this bluing agent is that it can be used at room temperature, which significantly reduces the effort compared to hot bluing. You don’t need special equipment or ventilation, and working with the room-temperature solution also minimizes safety risks.
During application, a black layer forms on the workpiece, which protects it from harmful environmental influences when combined with oils. The Ultra-3 Bluing agent is particularly effective on low-alloy steels, including chromium-containing variants. Additionally, you can dilute the concentrate with water at a ratio of up to 1:4 for structural steel without compromising the quality of the bluing.
Ideal for High-Precision Workpieces
Many corrosion protection methods add an additional layer of material to the surface, which can cause issues with tight tolerances. This is not the case with bluing.
The chemical reaction between the metal surface and the Ultra-3 Bluing agent creates a protective layer that is only two microns thick. This layer protects the workpiece from corrosion without affecting its precision.
How to Use Ultra-3 Bluing Agent
Make sure the solution is at room temperature for optimal results. Avoid using it outdoors in cold temperatures.
-
Preparation: Thoroughly clean and degrease the workpiece to prepare it for bluing.
-
Bluing: Dilute the Ultra-3 Bluing agent with water at a ratio of up to 1:4 for structural steel, then immerse the workpiece in the solution. Within minutes, a uniformly black surface will form.
-
Aftercare: Remove the workpiece from the solution, rinse it thoroughly with clean water, and dry it. For optimal corrosion protection, the workpiece should then be treated with a suitable oil. The combination of bluing and oil ensures long-lasting protection.
Suitable Materials
Ultra-3 Bluing agent is ideal for iron as well as unalloyed and low-alloy steels. For best results, we recommend bluing steels with a chromium content of up to 3%. For higher alloyed steels, we recommend our "Ultra-5" fast bluing or "Ultra-7" wipe-on bluing. Note that regular bluing does not work on stainless steel, as the necessary oxidation does not occur.
