Ultra-7 Brush-On Bluing > "The Strong One" – blacks even complicated steel
The Ultra-7 Brush-On Bluing Gel provides your steel workpieces with reliable and long-lasting surface protection against various environmental influences. Use the high-quality Ultra-7 Gel as a brush-on bluing for larger or non-removable parts or diluted as an immersion bluing for smaller workpieces. The dilution for immersion bluing can be up to a ratio of 1:20 with water. Thanks to its gel form, the bluing is particularly easy and precise to apply, offering great advantages in use.
Application Areas of Ultra-7 Brush-On Bluing
The Ultra-7 Brush-On Bluing Gel is always the first choice when you want to coat steel surfaces with a reliable protective layer without thermal stress and with minimal effort. Additionally, the bluing is excellent for precision parts whose dimensions must not change due to the application of a protective layer. Compared to coatings, the protective layer in bluing is not formed by material application but through the chemical reaction of the surface with oxygen and the associated oxidation.
Use the Ultra-7 Brush-On Bluing to apply onto steel workpieces. Provide components that are too large for an immersion bath with equally reliable protection against environmental influences as permanently installed parts using the Ultra-7 Bluing Gel. Or quickly and easily repair the protective layer of already blued items. The gel form allows for easy and targeted application, even on vertical or hard-to-reach surfaces.
For Which Materials is the Ultra-7 Brush-On Bluing Suitable?
The bluing process is suitable exclusively for alloyed and low-alloyed steels, as well as hardened steels and cast iron. The protective layer formed during quick bluing reliably protects the material against environmental influences from alkaline media such as paints, solvents, or lubricants. Acids, on the other hand, can dissolve the protective layer and damage the blued surface.
Please note that cold bluing is not suitable for stainless steel. Since stainless steel is a rust-free alloy, there is no chemical reaction that forms the basic principle of bluing.
Optimally Preparing Workpieces for Bluing
Only optimally prepared workpieces achieve flawless results after brushing with the bluing gel. Therefore, carry out the preparatory steps with the utmost care. One of the most important steps is the thorough cleaning of the object. Remove all contaminants so that there are no fats, oils, flash rust, or other impurities on the surface. Pay special attention to silicone oils and greases and remove them with specially developed cleaners.
After careful cleaning, apply the bluing evenly with a sponge or brush. Thanks to the gel form, the bluing agent is particularly easy to control. Immediately after the material comes into contact with the bluing, it takes on a black coloration. Let the bluing act for 0.5–2 minutes and then remove the solution from the workpiece with water and a soft cloth. If necessary, this step can be repeated.
Finally, dry the surface thoroughly and oil or wax it well. The result is a durable and reliable protective layer. Subsequent painting is also possible.
