Ultra-7 swipe burnishing > "the ultimate" - blackens even complicated steel
The Ultra-7 swipe blackening gives steel workpieces reliable and durable surface protection against a wide range of environmental influences. Use the high-quality product Ultra-7 as a brush-on blackening for blackening larger parts or parts that cannot be removed, or diluted as a dip blackening for smaller workpieces. Dilution as a dip bluing can be achieved up to 1:3 with water.

Applications of the Ultra-7 brush finish
Ultra-7Â swipe burnishing is always the first choice when you want to provide steel surfaces with a reliable protective coating without thermal stress and with little effort. Furthermore, burnishing is also excellently suited for precision parts whose dimensions must not be altered in any way by the application of a protective coating. This is because, in comparison to coating, the protective layer in burnishing is not formed by the application of material, but by the absorption of oxygen and the associated oxidation of the material surface.
Use the Ultra-7 brush-on blackening to brush onto steel workpieces. Use the Ultra-7 blackening agent to give components that are too large for a dipping bath just as reliable protection against environmental influences as fixed components. Or you can quickly and easily touch up the protective layer of objects that have already been blackened.
Â
Ultra-7 burnishing for which materials?
The burnishing process is only suitable for alloyed and low-alloyed as well as hardened steels and cast iron. The protective layer that forms during the fast burnishing process reliably protects the material against environmental influences from the alkaline environment, such as lacquers, solvents or lubricants. Acids, on the other hand, dissolve the protective layer and damage the burnished surface.
Please note that cold burnishing is not suitable for stainless steel. Since stainless steel is a rust-free alloy, no oxidation takes place, which is the basic principle of burnishing. As a result, burnishing agents are ineffective on stainless steel.
Â
Prepare workpieces optimally for burnishing
Only optimally prepared workpieces show perfect results after being coated with the burnishing agent. Therefore, carry out the preparatory treatments with utmost precision. One of the most important preparations is the careful cleaning of the object. Remove all impurities with the utmost precision so that there are no greases, oils, rust film or other contaminants on the surface. Look out for silicone oils and greases on the surface of the material and remove them with specially developed cleaners.
After careful cleaning, apply the burnishing evenly with a sponge or brush. Immediately after the material comes into contact with the black finish, it takes on a black colour. Allow the burnishing to work for 0.5-2 minutes and remove the solution from the workpiece with water and a soft cloth. If necessary, this step can be repeated.
Finally, dry the surface thoroughly and oil or wax the surface well. The result is a durable and reliable protective coating.
