Before you blacken metal, it should be prepared for the subsequent treatment with the conditioner. During this pre-treatment, you lightly etch the metal surface. Conditioning increases the effectiveness of the burnishing, as the surface adhesion is significantly improved. Especially steels containing chrome benefit from a visibly better result from the pre-treatment.
When conditioning, please note that it is a highly corrosive liquid that can cause severe burns on the skin or serious eye damage. For this reason, only work with appropriate protective clothing and goggles.
Application:
The first step is to thoroughly clean and degrease the item. Remove all foreign particles such as scale or oxide. After degreasing, do not touch the item with bare hands as this will deposit skin grease on the metal surface.
Place or hang the object in the conditioner, after a short time gas bubbles will form, now leave the object in the conditioner for another 5-30 minutes. Then remove the item and rinse it briefly with water before starting the burnishing process.
This pre-treatment is suitable for all Dr. Galva burnishing.
Marking of the mixture:
Conditioner
(contains sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, potassium hydrogen difluoride)
